General Accountability
The Director of Campus Ministry is directly responsible to the President of St. Joseph’s College. He or she works to promote and sustain an effective evangelical ministry, dedicated to witnessing and promoting the Gospel in the arena of post secondary education. The Director of Campus Ministry fosters the spiritual growth and faith development of students, staff, and faculty of both the College and the University of Alberta.

Qualifications
The Director of Campus Ministry is an Eastern or Western Rite Catholic who thrives in a team ministry
environment and who has demonstrated the ability to empower and inspire young people to live out their Baptismal calling in a University environment.
He or she has a track record of fruitful collaboration with ordained members of the Church with a minimum of 5 years experience as a Campus Minister or a related ministry. The Director of Campus Ministry will possess the minimum of a Master of Divinity granted by an ATS accredited institution or an equivalent degree.

Job Description
He or she will be a permanent full-time employee of St. Joseph’s College and will report directly to the
President. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

A. Sacramental Life and Worship
In collaboration with the Priest Chaplain of the College, the Director of Campus Ministry coordinates
the 9 pm Sunday Eucharist according to the Liturgical norms of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of
Edmonton. Including but not limited to the following, he or she:
• Establishes and participates in a student-centered Liturgy Committee;
• Recruits, trains, and schedules liturgical ministers for the 9 pm Sunday and Weekday
Eucharistic celebrations;
• Plans and coordinates of the Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults as required;
• Presides and, when appropriate, preaches at para-liturgical services and devotions
e.g., Liturgy of the Hours, Communion Services, Stations of the Cross, etc;
• Coordinates occasional celebrations for Catholic Rites other than the Roman Rite.

B. Ministry of Evangelization
The Director of Campus ministry develops student leaders and programs of Christian outreach and
witness to the wider University of Alberta campus. Including, but not limited to the following, he or she:
• In ongoing consultation with the President of the College, develops a Collegial vision
for giving a credible Catholic Christian witness to the University of Alberta and
Edmonton communities;
• Develops specific programs and initiatives to execute that vision, including various ministries reflecting Catholic Social Teaching;
• Recruits and empowers appropriate student leaders to implement the foregoing initiatives and ministries;
• Organizes and facilitates activities that promote faith development and prayer such as bible study, faith sharing groups, retreats, etc;
• Organized and facilitates activities that promote a culture of vocations at the University of Alberta.

C. Ministry of Pastoral Care

The Director of Campus Ministry develops a vision and supporting programmes and services for specific pastoral needs. Specific responsibilities include:
• Maintains a list of qualified spiritual directors and other counsellors for various needs
and makes referrals as necessary;
• Being available to provide spiritual and emotional support to individuals, providing
them with appropriate resources and/or referrals;
• Organizes and facilitates support groups as community needs dictate.

D. Administration
The Director administers the Department of Campus Ministry and participates in any other relevant
administrative duties as required, (e.g., committee work). Specific duties include:
• Plans, implements, and continues to evaluate the Department of Campus Ministry
as a smooth running organization, all the while being attentive to the needs of the
University of Alberta campus;
• Plans and maintains the Departmental budget;
• Plans and disseminates promotional materials for various programmes and activities;
• Hires, develops, and evaluates lay campus ministers as programming needs and budgetary resources allow;
• Hires, develops, and evaluates other part time staff as needs and resources allow
(e.g., administrative assistants, music ministry, work study students, etc.);
• Formally evaluates members of the Campus Ministry Department annually.

E. Professional Association
The Director maintains membership for appropriate members of the Campus Ministry Team and
continues to network with appropriate Campus Ministry related associations:
• Maintains membership in the Canadian Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCCM) and attends annual meetings;
• Maintains membership in appropriate University of Alberta Campus Ministry associations;
 Maintains membership in appropriate Archdiocesan associations relevant to Campus Ministry.

F. Compensation
The College has an attractive compensation and benefits package.
This position is classified at AO2 on the St. Joseph’s Administrative Officer salary scale.
(starting at $53,000 – commensurate with education and experience)
