SCRIPTURE - Bible Study On Campus
Lexio Divina - (Latin: sacred reading), is a method of meditative reading and conversation with God which can be traced back to the early Church, and continues to be a source of deep spiritual growth for many people throughout the world. It is usually done in three stages (Reading, Meditation, and Prayer) and is meant to be a relational encounter with God rather than theological study. How?
| 1. | Sign of the cross. Prayer: each session begins and ends with prayer. The Our Father to begin. | |
| 2. | Reading: The first proclamation is listened to with the personal copies of the Scriptures closed. | |
| 3. | Silence while you open yourself to God's word. | |
| 4. | Meditation: participants reflect out loud by answering questions. The answers need to come from what one has experienced and learned and not from exegesis or homily helps. From the heart more than from the head. | |
| How has God touched me or spoken to me in this passage? This could be from a word, a phrase or an over riding message from the reading. remember from the heart not from the head. |
||
| 5. | Prayer: Usually the final spontaneous prayers of praise and/or intercession reflect the meditation done on Gods word. | |
| 6. | Close with - Glory be to ... | |
Remember - First things first
Take a moment to invoke the Holy Spirit on your sharing. Believe that the same Spirit that inspired the writers of the Scriptures also inspires your communal reading. The writers of the Sacred Scriptures never envisioned that individuals would actually be able to follow along as the text was read aloud. So they wrote with oral transmission in mind. Therefore, read the text aloud and several times during the sharing. The first time it is proclaimed, the participants should listen with their Scriptures closed and their hearts opened. After the first question is answered, people may open their Scripture if they desire to follow along. We do not read the Scriptures for information but for transformation. Information can puff us up giving us a feeling of mastery over things. Transformation brings our lives and the Scriptures into relationship.

Young people today who are looking for a role model will find someone to identify with in this vibrant young outdoorsman who combined a deep love for Christ, a desire to serve the needy, and a mission to imbue society and politics with Christian ideals.
